New Backup Suite Maximises Profit from Unused Server Infrastructure

DataFort’s Utility Pricing Model, No Surcharges and Component/API Integration is Unique Off-Site Backup Resale Opportunity

Release date: September 2005

DataFort, the leading UK provider of off-site data backup, today announced its turnkey proposition for ISPs/BSPs, laptop and PC system builders, in fact any business wishing to integrate single- and home-user off-site backup into their IT offering.

Using their existing server infrastructure, ‘Tier 3 resellers’ can provide their end-users with DataFort’s acclaimed home and single-user backup suite, PCFort. Resellers can rebadge and rebrand PCFort for seamless integration into their existing customer software suite. They also gain an additional sales channel thanks to the banner advert displayed within PCFort’s daily backup report.

“The key difference between this and other backup systems that an ISP might resell,” explains Gavin Smith, Founder and CEO of DataFort, “is that ours is based on the utility allocation of licenses. Our competitors charge for backup licenses in blocks 10, 100, 1000, 10000 and so on. They will also make additional charges for maintenance, upgrades, support, server management, and so on. With PCFort, on the other hand, we charge our Tier 3 resellers for the number of clients they service on a month-by-month basis – they don’t have to make an outright purchase of licenses. In fact if the number of clients goes down one month, then that month they pay us less!”

“Furthermore, the DataFort fee includes everything - upgrades, access to remote admin systems and second tier support, after an initial setup charge.”

Businesses buying into DataFort’s Tier 3 service will also benefit from integration into their current systems through either an API or a component, another characteristic that is not available from any other backup provider. “We provide the ability to start, cancel and alter accounts as well as output information needed to integrate with the ISPs automated billing systems,” explains Smith, “thus seamlessly integrating PCFort into the end-user’s buying experience from their ISP or system builder.”
